Preservation Planning

Meticulous planning is the foundation of successful projects.

Through careful research, a building’s architectural and historical value can be discovered and the level of preservation that it warrants can be determined. Opportunities and constraints for rehabilitating or adapting a historic structure for a new use should be clearly articulated and then creative strategies for accomplishing this work carefully developed.

My experience with planning projects that require creative preservation solutions is strong. When necessary, I supplement my own experience and skills with a broad network of architecture, real estate, and finance professionals to support the goal of laying a strong groundwork for successful projects.

Fundraising

Historic buildings require constant maintenance, and quality preservation work to keep a building in good repair or to enhance or modernize it sensitively can be expensive.

Many non-profit and institutional owners of historic properties undertake capital campaigns and other fundraising initiatives to support such efforts, and linking interested funders with good projects to accomplish mutual goals is important and gratifying work.

I have experience in identifying and obtaining funding to support preservation projects from foundations, individual donors, and government grant programs. I support fundraising for critical preservation work through developing funding plans, preparing compelling project material and case statements, identifying and cultivating individual and foundation donors, grant writing, and advising on capital campaigns.

Project Management

Successful projects are the result of conscientious attention to detail and consistent, firm follow-up with project team members—from architects, to contractors, to funders and financing entities. Effective communication helps ensure that all parties perform their duties to a high degree and according to schedule.

While there are different styles of project management, my approach is collaborative and based on high expectations, mutual trust, and demonstrated performance.

My objective is to make sure that projects are completed in a timely manner, to the highest standards, and on budget.
